"此課程之學習目標，在於以當代（西元兩千年後出版）之英國長篇小說，探究當代作家所關注之議題，以及讀者透過閱讀長篇小說、反思當代政治與文化現象。本課程之選讀作品將採取滾動式輪動，希望藉由選讀不同作品，提供學生檢視反思當代議題之批判性讀寫之能力。

"本課程以研讀西元2000年以後出版的之英國當代長篇小說為主。除了故事情節發展之外，文本分析與主題討論皆於課堂時間進行。學期課程中，學生將針對此兩本長篇小說各自撰寫期中與期末報告，加強學生反思與批判性思考能力。

◎本學科學習目標：
This seminar course intends to offer a glimpse of contemporary British novels. What do the contemporary writers concern about? How can readers understand some of the major political and cultural phenomena through reading? Two major writers will be covered: Ian McEwen and Kazuo Ishiguro. This course wishes to address some of the contemporary issues with the two assigned novels: war, human conditions, and the emergence of articifical intelligence. |

◎課程要求：
1. This course will be instructed mainly in English.
2. Two term projects are expected. Details should be announced in class.
3. Before submitting each term paper, you are advised to talk to your course instructor before you go into your writing.
4. Other cultural aspects will be included in the course where necessary.
5. Should you need to use AI to assist your writing, it is fine to use it to help you revise your writing, but please do not copy paste whatever AI is giving to you. If you are found to have used AI to do your paper entirely, it will be considered as plagiarism and the paper will score zero.
6. Please note that this course has a maximum capacity of 60 students. Once enrolment exceeds the system limit of 50 students, priority for add-codes will be given to upper-year students. Students who receive permission to add the course must, during the first week, bring the add-course form in person to the instructor for signature. If this cannot be done, the add request will not be processed. Thank you!

*Please note we have to read two novels this semester. You do not necessarily have to purchase the edition we will be using, but it is your own responsibility to follow the lecture.
*Please note that this course requires 40 to 50 pages of reading per week. Do consider if you can complete the weekly reading before you take this course. Thanks. |
