◎本學科內容概述:
This course gives students a chance to appreciate the fundamental concepts underlying phonology, which is concerned with the sound system of a language. The highlights of the course cover themes or topics which are of great theoretical or practical values.

The topics to be addressed are: 〈漢字拼音的幾個關鍵問題〉、〈八種語言的語音系統簡介〉、Phonology of brand naming、What is Phonology、The syllable of Chinese、Syllable and stress
◎本學科學習目標:
This course on phonology aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of how sounds are organized in language. It begins by presenting evidence for mental phonological knowledge and explores the fundamental aspects of phonology. Through the analysis of diverse sound patterns in various languages, students will develop the skills needed to analyze phonological structures. The course also covers modern phonological theories and research methods, preparing students for advanced phonology studies. The goals of the course include explaining the core aspects of phonology, demonstrating the existence of phonological knowledge, introducing patterns in lesser-known languages, and encouraging collaboration on a phonology project.

◎課程要求:
1. Class etiquette: You are expected to attend classes on time. If you must be absent from class, you take responsibility for the absence. Notify us in advance through the university official leave system. You will not pass the course once you miss the class with no excuses over four times.

2. Collaboration and academic integrity: There are some homework assignments in our class. You are permitted to work with other students, but you must write up the draft on your own. Plagiarism is a serious academic misconduct. Late homework is not accepted either except for compelling reasons and with prior permission of the instructor. You will get “0” for both of the cases.
