◎本學科內容概述: 本課程旨在帶領學生對英國從古英語時期、中世紀英語時期到17世紀早期的文學有一個整體的認識。課程的內容,涵蓋不同時期重要作家最具代表性的詩歌或戲劇。學習的方式,以研讀文本為主,觀賞視覺媒體藝術為輔,幫助學生瞭解到英國不同時期的文學、文化、歷史、哲學、宗教與政治的現象,進而加深、加廣對英國文化的認知與視野,並且提升自身的英語能力。 |

◎本學科學習目標: This course surveys British literature along chronological lines according to the 3 major historical periods of British literature: the Middle Ages (7th c.-15th c.), the Early Modern Period or "Renaissance" (16th c. & 17th c.), and the "long" Eighteenth Century (1660-1780).
• To demonstrate awareness of the scope and variety of works in the arts and humanities.
• To understand those works as expressions of individual and human values within an historical
and social context.
• To respond critically to works in the arts and humanities.
• To articulate an informed personal reaction to works in the arts and humanities.
• To develop an appreciation for the aesthetic principles that guide or govern the humanities and
arts.
• To demonstrate knowledge of the influence of literature, philosophy, and/or the arts on
intercultural experiences. |

◎課程要求: 1. This course will be instructed mainly in English, with occassional Mandarine in use.
2. One final project and three online quizzes are expected. If you fail to take the quiz, there will be no make-up test afterwards.
3. Before submitting your final project, you are advised to talk to your course instructor.
4. Other historical and cultural aspects will be included in the course where necessary.
5. You will receive ZERO points if your project is entirely done with ChatGPT, Google Gemini or other generative AI. Please be thoughtful about this.
6. Each absence (both excused and unexcused) will deduct 10 points from your overall score for class participation. Too many absences will automatically disqualify you from taking the final exam.
7. As the course instructor, I shall reserve every right to evaluate each individual's performance in class. |
◎成績考核 課堂參與討論25% : Regular attendance is strongly recommended! 20% is your attendance, and 5% is my evaluation of each individual's in-class performance. 小考45% : Each quiz takes up 15 % of your score.They will be three on-line quizzes. The dates for quizzes will be announced in class in advance. And no make-up quiz afterwards. 期末考30% : The final project. Please note that from Week 11, you will have to form a clear idea about your final project and talk to your class instructor. |
