本學科為語言學入門課程, 分為兩個學期. 第一學期介紹語言的基本結構, 包括語音, 音韻, 構詞, 語法, 語意及語用. | ◎本學科教學內容大綱：
1.語音學:介紹發音部位、方法、清濁音、發音器官的協調、運作情況及國際音標
2.音韻學:介紹音素概念及音變規則及分析音韻結構方法
3.構詞學:介紹詞彙內部結構組成如字首字根音素及分析構詞結構方法
4.語法學:介紹句子結構及分析句子結構方法
5.語意學:介紹詞彙及句子的意義及語意結構方法

課堂參與討論10% : There will be “surprise” in-class assignments or quizzes that will measure participation.
小考10%
期中考20% : The exams will test understanding of basic concepts and terms and the ability to describe and analyze language data. The midterm will be based on the material covered up to the date of the exam.
期末考20% : The final will cover the material that is not covered by the midterm.
作業/習題演練40% : Work in groups of FIVE.
補充說明：Assignments are due at the beginning of the class. It is highly recommended that you turn in all assignments on time. Each day the assignment is overdue your grade will drop 20% of the grade.
