Knowledge of jazz styles, such as swing, latin, rock, etc. b. Knowledge of the history of jazz, including cultural, conceptual, and aesthetic aspects of jazz performance styles c. Practice/rehearsal techniques to maximize results e. Improvisation skills f. Sight-reading skills g. Lead and section ensemble playing Further, participation in the Chiayi University Jazz Band provides a performing outlet for both music majors and non-music majors. The Jazz Band is conducted in a “learning by doing” style. Therefore, all members of the group are required to participate. Members are also required to adequately practice learned materials and concepts outside of class in preparation for the following week.
